The shape of bulwarks is not a circle but a half octagonal. This set have been incorporated the latest research.
Type 96 Triple 25mm Machine-Gun with Shield
The shutter of the shield was broken. It was the replication of battle damage for filming. The group of many machine-guns looks formidable.

Bridge
As for the bridge of Yamato, a one-third of original height was reproduced. In the movie, the bridge of 1/10 scale Yamato model that belongs to Yamato museum is composed on this top.

Because of a lack of building funds and a problem of the Building Standards Act, the complete replication of the bridge was impossible. It is a real disappointment.
And as for starboard of the set, many areas are not replicated. It has a reason. The shooting on location was concentrated on the port, because the attack to the battleship Yamato was concentrated to the port.
Type 89 Twin 12.7cm AA-Gun
12.7cm AA-guns were mounted on the AA-gun deck.. The height of it was about the same as the second floor.

There were the stairs for exit when I passed the AA-guns. The boarding time was about 40 minutes because I slowly saw her. It may be usually about 20 minutes.
Exhibition Room
There is the exhibition room next to the dock. The sets of the rooms in Yamato and a lot of props are on display, a letter, tasuki (a cord used to tuck up the sleeves of a kimono), and military uniform etc... Furthermore, the making video of this film is shown here. Unfortunately, photograph is forbidden in those rooms.
Furthermore, there were a souvenir shop and a cafeteria for tourist in this hall (Originally this cafeteria was for movie staff). They were doing a roaring trade. So many Yamato goods were selling there. T-shirt, towel, sweets, Onomichi-ramen, plastic model, books, picture, poster etc...
My favorite souvenir is "Yamato lemonade". Lemonade manufacturing machines for crew were installed in the battleship Yamato. It was rare for Japanese warships of those days. The equipment of the battleship Yamato was in a class of its own, and she gave good service. She was called "Yamato hotel" for that reason.
This is a reproduction of the lemonade. The lip of a bottle was packed by a newspaper during the World War II (replica), and is a good old-fashioned design.
My impressions about full size film set of Yamato
Boarding to the full scale set of the battleship Yamato was a valuable experience for me. I felt deeply her size. The battleship Yamato was a phantom or legendary warship for me so far. But now, I am convinced that she existed certainly 60 years ago. Although the Yamato was outdated as an arms, I am proud that Japan of those days constructed such an excellent warship, and it grieves me to think of that about 3000 crew were killed with her. She was really Japanese glory and failure...
This set was dismantled after the end to open to the public. It's a pity.
About the movie "Otokotachi no Yamato"
Now, the film "Otokotachi no YAMATO" is being shown from December 17 in Japan and it is drawing a lot of audiences next to "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". It is already said that it will become the best hit film in all the Japanese films 2005-2006.
I have already seen this movie (right picture is the movie pamphlet). It is sad story of battleship Yamato and her crew who were sunk in a suicide attack operation. This movie is not a documentary but a drama touch. But it is not a entertainment movie dramatized to a love story like the "Pearl Harbor"(2001). The original of this movie is the same title novel based on testimony from survivors of battleship Yamato.
The hero are one inexperienced young private and two backbone noncommissioned officers who are the crew in battleship Yamato. Almost characters in this movie were modeled on real crew of Yamato. Therefore, the story reproduced the historical fact faithfully.
About dramaturgy, it seems the battle scene was greatly influenced by "Saving Private Ryan"(1998), and the development of story had some resemblance to "Titanic"(1997).
When I saw this movie, many audiences were in tears, and I heard sounds of sniffling here and there in the theater. To tell the truth, me too... This film gives a picture of the war in Japanese viewpoint that is a defeated nation. It may be fresh for people of victorious country in World War II.
I hope this film is shown in all the countries of the world.
