The reason why battleship Yamato is loved by the Japanese beyond the times
Battleship Yamato is popular among we the Japanese. It is prominent in the imperial Japanese navy ships. The museum for Yamato was built in the turning point on the 60th anniversary of postwar days at last. Why Yamato is too popular among the Japanese. Because Yamato is not an ordinary warship for the Japanese. She is the symbol of Japanese glory and failure in 20th century.

Asia had been ruled by the European and American Great Powers in the mid]18 century. Only Japan located in the Far East was still escaping from their invasions. Japan introduced Western technology and culture quickly to keep independence. It was a start of a policy for enhancing the wealth and military strength of a country. As a result, Japan entered there name in "the big three navies in the world" after the World War I.
The battleship Yamato was built in such times. Japan that was poorer than Europe and America built the strongest battleship in the world. If even an Asian who had been called inferior race do their best, they were able to compare with Westerners. She gave a self confidence and courage to the Japanese. Moreover, "Yamato" is an old name of Nara Prefecture that is Japanese ancient capital, but on the other hand, it means the very thing "Japan". The world's best battleship who was named "Japan"... She was indeed Japanese honor and the fruit of wisdom.

But in the Pacific War, main arms had already changed from battleship into aircraft. As a result, she was sunk with about 3000 crew by the U.S. aircraft corps in the suicide attack operation. Anyone has understood it was a reckless mission. Yamato's crew must be afraid of their death. But they believed that their sacrifices saved their family, lover, friends, and hometown. Therefore they entrusted to the people who survived a Japanese future, and made a sortie to the death. Their death is holy... A foreigner often fells stupid or pity for their circumstances. Kamikaze (suicide attack) may be an action that only the Japanese understand. We the Japanese have an aesthetics "self-sacrifice" from ancient times. "Life is risked for loyalty ". It is a spirit of the Bushido (Japanese chivalry).
The battleship Yamato was useless on battlefield. But after the defeat, the high technology that built her was used for a peaceful economic activity. It revived postwar poor Japan to the big economic power and relieved many Japanese people.

Tragedy of battleship Yamato struck a chord in the hearts of we the Japanese. This is the reason why battleship Yamato is loved by the Japanese.

Well, I saw an old woman who was filled with tears in front of the Yamato crew's testamentary letter. The majority of her generation lost there family, lover, friends, property, or house in the Pacific war. It pains me to think of how much her generation bitter experience. It is important to leave a memory of the war because we the Japanese don't make the same mistake.

Yamato museum is worthwhile museum for us.
